Ready to give an answer? Not so sure...

I was driving to grab some Wendy's today during my lunch break (don't worry, I don't make fast food a habit -- it is more like an enjoyable hobby :)) , and as I was getting ready to turn on some Audio A, my ears caught a bit of a sermon.

It was Josh McDowell, preaching I don't know where, on Focus on the Family's broadcast, and he was talking about an ongoing survey he has been performing for many years. He speaks at conferences all across the nation focusing on high school aged kids and youth leaders. At every conference he goes to, he picks the brightest, most on-fire and successful youth leader he can find and asks them three simple questions:

1. Do you believe that the Bible is true? (usual answer is yes)
2. Do you believe that the Bible is the word of God and you can believe whatever it says as absolute truth? (usual answer is yes)
3. Why? (usually dumbfounded silence, or a blatently wrong answer)

He said that he has given this survey to nearly 1500 students in all this time, and only 1 knew how to confidently answer the question. One young person, after seriously thinking about it, answered, "Because I believe it!" He thought that because he believed it, it was true for him. To him, if someone else believed something else, then that was okay for them. That's called moral relativism.

Another time, a youth leader answered, "Because I have faith." Again a serious problem. Just because you have faith to believe that the Bible is the word of God, doesn't make it anymore true. If a muslim has faith that the Koran is the word of God, does that make it true?

Josh Mcdowell told each of them, "Well, that's the difference between you and me -- you say the Bible is true because you believe it, and I believe the Bible BECAUSE it is true."

Now I don't know much about this Josh McDowell dude, but his story here made me think.

At that moment, I wasn't ready to confidently answer that question.

Are you?

A few reasons I came up with are as follows:

-The Bible is historically, scientifically, and chronologically accurate, and was written by over 40 men over a period of 1500 years...
-The Bible bears viable testimony of the reasons behind the corrupt condition of mankind
-Jesus of Nazareth, the greatest man who walked the earth, who healed all manner of sickness and disease, and raised the dead, and died for his faith, said so.
-Because it has proven itself to be true in my life...

- - -> Right or wrong, what's your reason?
